DEI Membership Grant

SMPS Philadelphia’s DEI Committee strives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all facets of the Chapter’s operations, including event planning, community outreach, communications, and organizational practices.

The purpose of our DEI Membership Grant is to provide outstanding individuals the opportunity to engage deeply with our chapter as a member at no cost, participate in discussions related to operations as a committee member, and through one year of committee service, obtain eligibility to serve on the Chapter’s board of directors. This grant is funded by our M/W/DBE Sponsors.

This Grant Provides:

  • One-year of membership to SMPS Philadelphia (valued at $399)
  • Immediate placement on an SMPS Philadelphia committee


Submission and Selection Criteria

Submissions are due by 5:30 PM on Friday, May 7, 2021. Late submissions will not be considered.

Selection of grant recipients will be based on the content and quality of application submissions as determined by the Chapter’s DEI Committee. Special consideration may be given to members of historically underrepresented groups. Applicants are encouraged to supply information regarding race, ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation, however, individuals may decline to include responses to any/all of those areas. Grant recipient(s) will be notified by June 10, 2021.

Required Narrative Responses

  1. Summarize your SMPS Philadelphia Chapter involvement (if any).
  2. What do you hope to gain from an SMPS membership?
  3. How have you benefited from SMPS and the Philadelphia Chapter to date?
  4. How do you plan to give back to SMPS and the Philadelphia Chapter after becoming a member?
  5. How has your diversity (cultural heritage, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, family, work, school experiences, etc.) contributed to who you are today and your career in the A/E/C industry?
  6. What challenges do you face as a professional in the A/E/C industry, and what is your approach to overcoming them?

  • Statement of commitment to participating in SMPS Philadelphia committee activities for the 2021-2022 program year (September 1 – August 31)
  • Statement of support for involvement in SMPS from your employer
  • Letter of recommendation from your supervisor, current SMPS member, or industry professional
