Come join us for an hour of discussion with Councilwoman Sanchez on the revitalization of the Kensington neighborhood, including possible impacts of the Rebuild Program and the Philadelphia Land Bank.
Her sprawling council district is comprised of a wide area, covering all or parts of 12 of the city’s 66 wards. SMPS Philadelphia is honored to have the Councilwoman talk about one of her neighborhoods so we can learn about the possible projects to improve the well-being of the neighborhood and lives of the residents.
Councilwoman Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez is a veteran activist with over 30 years of service to the City of Philadelphia, currently serving a third four-year term on Philadelphia City Council. Maria has advocated tirelessly for creating and preserving family-sustaining jobs, investing in a trained and educated workforce, reducing blight and transforming vacant land, keeping families in their homes, mandating ethics and transparency in government, revitalizing neighborhood economies, reforming unsafe demolition practices, and securing the rights of women, families, and workers across the City.
Councilwoman Sanchez currently serves City Council as Chair of the Committees of Appropriations; Chair of the Committee on Licenses and Inspections; Vice Chair of the Committee on Streets and Services; and Vice Chair of the Committee on Public Health and Human Services. Maria also serves as a member of the following committees: Rules; Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs; Education; Labor and Civil Service; and Housing, Neighborhood Development, and the Homeless.
This will be followed by a walking tour of the Kensington neighborhood. At this time, attendance is capped at 30 attendees. A portion of the money collected for this program will be donated to benefit the residents of Kensington.
Cost: Members $30; Nonmembers $45
