Event Recap: The Shrine on Vine Tour
September 13, 2016
SMPS Philadelphia kicked off their program year with a once in a lifetime tour of the newest temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, now closed to the public.
The event began with networking at the Sheraton Downtown where the 2016-2017 SMPS Philadelphia chapter board members were introduced. Brief presentations were given by Patrick Fair of Keast & Hood Structural Engineers and Ryan Conover of The Lighting practice, who both offered great insight into their roles on the project. Tour groups were then lead to the meetinghouse for a short video presentation that explained the significance of the temples to the Church members. An usher then escorted the groups through the temple, explaining the purpose of each room. Our typically animated group has never been so quiet, as they sat in admiration of the impressive architectural detailing and interior design of the temple.
