Bringing Back the Best of Build Business – October 14, 2015
11:30 a.m. — 2:00 PM presentation
In August, SMPS held their national Build Business conference in Los Angeles. Many of us were unable to make the trip, so the Philadelphia Chapter has brought back some of the best speakers to share their presentations with you:
1. MAX (Market.Act.eXchange) – IGNITE – If You’re the Smartest Person in the Room, Change Rooms!
In a presentation that has inspired professionals both young and old, Patrick King goes through his own journey of discovering the one concept that pulled him from a homeless 17 year-old to founding a “bi-coastal powerhouse” marketing firm, as dubbed by Inc. Magazine. This presentation will provide attendees with not only the approach, but concrete steps they can use right away to propel themselves to the next level of their professional career.
Speaker: Patrick L. King, Founder & CEO – Imagine
2. MAX (Market.Act.eXchange) – LAUNCH – How One Firm Discovered Its Values
In 2012, Thornton Tomasetti embarked on an effort to define their purpose and values following the vision framework outlined by Collins and Porras. Eighteen months later, they had something solid to rollout, and a schedule and plan to achieve our big goal. This is the story of the false starts, previous failures, and course corrections until they finally got it right. The presentation also includes the implementation plan and early feedback.
Speaker: James Kent, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer – Thornton Tomasetti
3. MAX (Market.Act.eXchange) – IGNITE All it Takes is a Spark
What motivates and inspires you? What are you passionate about? And how can that passion be used to leverage your career and benefit your company? For Scott Butcher, the spark that ignited his passion came in the form of a 19.2 ounce child, fighting for life in the NICU. In this inspirational talk, Butcher shares how he went from a low point in his career and life to discover his passions and leverage them to enhance his reputation, benefit his company, and help others in the process. A widely published author, ENR blogger, successful speaker, and SMPS Foundation president, Butcher truly believes that the key to your success lies in finding that spark, and knowing how to focus its energy so the success in your career and life can go beyond where you ever thought it could!
Speaker: Scott D. Butcher, FSMPS, CPSM, Vice President – JDB Engineering, Inc.
4. Turning Digital Touchpoints into Real Business
A company has a website and is active on social media. Now what? This session will dive into the analytics of websites and tracking social media usage to turn digital touchpoints (interactions with an audience who might be anonymous) into revenue. Breaking down the data behind a digital brand will help the firm streamline their messaging, find ideal clients, and efficiently focus their business development efforts. Showcasing various A/E/C websites, blogs and social media platform analytics will provide best practices and “ah ha” moments. This session will give marketing professionals the tools to turn website maintenance, blog postings, and social media activity into business development data.
Speaker: Julie Huval, CPSM, Marketing – Beck Technology
5. Way Beyond Average: 4 Skills that will Elevate You from ‘One of the Pack’ to ‘The One’
Speaker Susan Murphy, a prominent executive speaking, leadership and communications trainer will take attendees on a journey from “been there, everyone does that” me-based marketing to “wow, you really get us” client/value-focused win strategies. The four skills that will be covered include: 1. How to identify your firm’s unique selling proposition and communicate it in a way that will make clients want to hear more. 2. How to build relationships through the art of “ask then shut up and listen”. 3. How to develop client-specific content that will stand out from the competition. 4. Secrets to giving presentations that start with asking the interview panel what they need and end with a demonstration of your clairvoyance, empathy, and ability to make their life a more wonderful experience.
Speaker: Susan M. Murphy, Executive Trainer and Presentation Coach – Murphy Motivation and Training
