SMPS Philly is proud to announce the launch of a new track of programming geared to assist marketing coordinators and those new to the AEC industry in their careers. The Coordinator’s Club is designed to present basic marketing elements and tools that are instrumental to successful professional development in a more informal setting than the standard chapter programming. These low-pressure, highly collaborative sessions will be great environments for developing networking skills, and serve to jump-start development of a strong peer network.
There will be five Coordinator’s Club sessions in the 2013-2014 program year; while the topics are designed to appeal to marketers at the coordinator level, marketers of all experience levels should feel free to attend! Our first Coordinator’s Club session was Prezi: From A to Zoom! and our second session is on Defining Differentiators.
A design or construction firm must capitalize on their unique Strategic Competitive Advantage in order to differentiate themselves. Speaker Bill Long will define what it means to have a Strategic Competitive Advantage in the design and construction industry and will show that successful firms need to have one or more competitive advantage(s) in order to compete on factors other than price.
Specifically, he will present, analyze, expand upon and provide A/E/C-industry examples of five characteristics that make up a competitive advantage. Attendees will then test their own firm’s perceived advantages against these criteria. Suggestions and examples will be offered and potential sustainable advantages will be discussed by all.
Finally, Bill will note that successful firms are able to encapsulate their advantages into 4-7 bulleted differentiators. He will not only show how this can be done but also demonstrate how these bulleted points can serve as the basis for a deliverable’s theme, an outline for a proposal’s Executive Summary, and/or a “summary slide” at a short-list presentation.
After attending this event, participants will be able to:
– Understand why it is critical for a design or construction company to develop and exploit their Strategic Competitive Advantage(s)
– Identify attributes that are critical differentiators that can become the components of their company’s competitive advantages
– Determine what characteristics make a competitive advantage sustainable
– Apply a competitive advantage’s sustainable characteristics to their company and encapsulate their company’s competitive advantages so that they can be concisely conveyed via a single presentation slide
