The Synthesis Redemption: A Get Busy Living Event – Build Business 2016 Social at Eastern State Penitentiary – August 12, 2016
6:30 — 8:30 PM
Join SMPS Philadelphia* as we host the Build Business Friday night party. Enjoy a tour of Eastern State Penitentiary, mingle with colleagues, sip on tasty libations, nibble on delicious snacks, take a selfie at Al Capone’s cell, and dance like your freedom depended on it, all while taking in an often-overlooked piece of Philadelphia’s rich history.
Designed by British architect John Haviland and opened in 1829, Eastern State Penitentiary was on the cutting edge of criminal rehabilitation as well as building design with advanced mechanical systems such as central heat and running water that at the time eclipsed even the White House. Eastern State would go on to serve as the model for nearly 300 prisons.
After the party, stroll through Philadelphia’s creative and funky Fairmount/Art Museum neighborhood filled with delightful restaurants, cafes and bars and understand the beauty of this City of neighborhoods.
Tours are led by Eastern State Penitentiary guides and are included in the cost of admission.
Complimentary shuttle transportation to and from Eastern State Penitentiary will be provided. Cabs and Uber are readily accessible as well.
*Registration not included with Build Business registration. This is a private event. It is not endorsed by or affiliated with Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site.
