Marketing professionals and technical members of firms are often asked to review contracts and fee proposals as part of their positions; however most of us do not have a background in accounting or law. Enter this presentation.
A/E/C Contracts and Finances will help you to round out your skill set by providing attendees with legal and financial overviews that you can then draw upon going forward in your career. The event will be split into two sessions with a representative from StambaughNess and Powell Trachtman presenting – both authoritative resources for the industry. Richard J. Davies, Esq., Shareholder, Powell Trachtman P.C.
Mr. Davies’ practice focuses on the representation of engineers, architects, and other design professionals, as well as manufacturers of complex products. He regularly acts as their consultant and advocate, particularly in respect to risk management, by negotiating their contracts, addressing potential claims on projects, and regularly defending them in actions and proceedings initiated against them.

As Principal, Steve’s concentration is on assisting clients within the architecture, engineering, construction and real estate development industries to improve internal processes and maximize profitability. Clients also benefit from his extensive experience auditing employee benefit plans ranging from 100 to 5,000 employees.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Maryland.
- Attendees will understand how their marketing materials can inadvertently create an unreasonably high standard of care for the performance of their firm’s contractually-agreed-upon services; to reach that understanding the attendees will learn about some of the statutes and case law applicable to the delivery of architectural, engineering and similar professional design services.
- Attendees will learn how to manage the expectations created by their marketing materials so their firms can deliver services at a standard that is consistent with those materials and reasonable under the circumstances so they avoid claims based on a failure to meet those

Cancellations made two weeks prior to the event will be fully refunded, minus a $10 processing fee. Due to SMPS Philadelphia’s commitment with vendors, all cancellations after that time and no-shows will be ineligible for a refund, though a registrant may substitute for another event at no charge up until 24 hours prior to the event.
